PERSONAL
Joanne Kathleen Rowling atau lebih dikenal sebagai J.K. Rowling lahir pada Yate, Bristol, England, Inggris, 31 Juli 1965. Dia adalah seorang novelis yang terkenal dengan karya panjangnya, Harry Potter, yang mendunia hingga sekarang. Sebelumnya perempuan kelahiran Yate, Bristol, England, Inggris ini adalah seorang single parent (orang tua tunggal) yang tinggal di Edinburgh, Skotlandia, setelah bercerai dengan suaminya yang berprofesi sebagai wartawan.
Rowling sempat terlibat kasus, dimana dia dituduh melakukan plagiat dalam penulisan seri buku Harry Potter yang dikarangnya dari pengarang Inggris Adrian Jacobs. Namun kasus ini akhirnya dimenangkan oleh pihak JK Rowling. Hingga kini, penulis ini masih dikenang sebagai penulis jenius yang telah memperkenalkan karakter luar biasa dalam cerita yang luar biasa pula.
KARIR
Rowling menjadi sorotan kesusasteraan internasional mulai 1999, saat tiga seri pertama novel remaja Harry Potter berada tiga teratas dalam daftar New York Times best-seller, setelah sebelumnya juga memperoleh kemenangan yang sama di Britania Raya. Novel tersebut masing-masing Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (1998) dan Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (1999).
Rezeki Rowling semakin bertambah saat seri keempat, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2000) diterbitkan pada Juli 2000. Seri ini menjadi buku paling laris penjualannya dalam sejarah.
Perempuan kelahiran 31 Juli 1965 itu, terhitung telah menulis tujuh novel Harry Poter. Buku kelimanya, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2003), menyusul Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005) dan Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2007).
Rowling menjadi sangat beruntung, setelah keseluruhan edisi bukunya diproduksi dalam bentuk layar lebar. Dan keseluruhannya merengkuh kesuksesan yang luar biasa.
